Welcome Back! It is a new school year and we are looking forward to working with you and your child. We know that it will be a wonderful and exciting learning experience for all of us. Literacy is our primary focus this year. We are so excited about our reading program which is a novel based curriculum that affords our students the opportunity to become skilled independent readers. As teachers, we will use cooperative learning and differentiated instruction to increase and enhance academic achievement. We encourage reading at home at least 30 minutes every night and do require book reports. Reading is a key component to success in other academic areas and every day survival. We will also focus on mathematics this year. We will venture into mathematics using the Holt Mathematics Series. You along with your student can receive additional support by viewing their website at go.hrw.com. We advise our students to study their math terms and practice their skills on a daily basis. Mathematics is an everyday skill that students need. Our seventh graders need to know that this is their most influential year when attempting acceptance to the high school of their choice. Currently, some of our high schools are requiring a minimum of a combined score of 10 in both reading and math to be eligible to apply for admittance. You may view the Chicago Public School website for graduation requirements. Good character is expected at all times in Dunne Technology Academy. It is important the students learn to socially interact with others in a positive manner. We are sure that each student will learn and develop through our upper cycle program. Participation in extracurricular activities requires good behavior and no failing grades. We are looking forward to working with you all this year. If there is a question or something to share, feel free to send a note or schedule an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher. The partnership between home and school is very important in the education of our children. We will work very hard to make this year an enjoyable, exciting, and academically fulfilling learning experience for your child. Thank you, Mrs. Lampkins Ms. Logan Ms. Sykes
