Dear Dunne Parents, I, welcome your (OUR) child to my classroom (113). It is a must that your (our) child is present and in uniform every day in order to receive the deliverance of my teaching techniques that will result in a positive outcome. However, if he/she is absent, he/she needs to return with a notice of excuse. My classroom is a learning community where reading, writing, intellectual discussions, and responsible behavior is demonstrated. Math, Science, and Technology is definitely a driving force at our school that promotes our children to become future leaders, problem solvers, and multi-culturally inclined. Your (our) child will accept responsibility and accountability for his/her own learning and will set goals that will be accomplished. As your (our) child’s teacher, I will model (explain while demonstrating) reading comprehension, fluency, and give direct instructions on vocabulary. Your (our) child will learn the effective strategies that good readers use, through innovative and visionary activities. He/she will be excited and eager to learn, therefore these strategies will be explained to you in depth by your (our) child. I am looking forward in utilizing my many other positive qualities, along with my 17 yrs. of teaching experiences in order to create critical thinkers, assets to our communities, and successful problem solvers. It is in the best interest of your (our) child that we maintain an open line of communication. I am available for conferences before and after school. You are more than welcome to visit my classroom to observe your (our) child and or volunteer in assisting me in educating our children. Misconduct is not ever tolerated in my class, because we have no time to neglect teaching to correct behavioral issues. Your child will share our classroom rules (please sign) with you and explain our behavioral chart to you. However, The Chicago Public School Uniform Discipline Code is forthcoming and please familiarize yourself with it, as it will be strictly enforced. It is a CPS mandate that every student complete at least 25 book reports for the year. This is also part of our reading curriculum, but my goal for my students is 35 or more. We will conduct book-talks as well. Homework and Projects will be assigned on an ongoing basis in conjunction with our units of study. They are expected to be turned in on the given due dates. If by any chance, your (our) child says that he/she does not have any homework, assign him/her to read a form of genre (types of text) and complete a full summary. Also, he/she should study our weekly spelling and vocabulary words. Remember, a good education for our children takes all of our participation. This will be a fun learning year for all of us. We will become more acquainted during orientation and I will give you other contact information then. See you soon!!! Sincerely, Toyia Watson
